Quarantine is a function of AQIS – The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service. AQIS’s role is to prevent the entry into Australia of exotic pests, diseases and weed seeds that could affect plant, animal and human health and our environment. Quarantine Officers charge us on a time basis and these costs are passed on to the customer and collected at the time of delivery to the residence. Goods are not automatically confiscated. If they have been declared and are then found to be prohibited, the customer is given the opportunity of re-exporting them or they are destroyed (at the customer’s expense). Some goods, which are allowed to come into the country, require treatment prior to being released including Gamma Radiation, Cleaning, Heat Treatment, Fumigation etc. These services are at then customer's own expense.
